Care & Lifespan

The maintenance list is short and the honest numbers are long. What to do in the first month, what to do forever, and what to expect years from now.

Curing Is Normal. Here Is What It Looks Like.

For the first few weeks after installation, the mounting solution between the covering and your glass is still drying out. During this window you may see small water pockets, a light haze or a slightly cloudy look. This is normal, it is temporary, and it resolves on its own as the covering cures. Depending on the product, the season and how much sun the glass gets, curing takes anywhere from a few days to about a month.

Two rules during curing: do not wash the glass, and do not poke at water pockets. Let them evaporate on their own. If anything still looks off after a month, call us and we will come look at it. That is part of the job, not a favour.

Routine Care

After curing, maintenance is deliberately boring.

Use

A soft cloth or rubber squeegee with mild soap and water. That is the whole kit. Clean it the way you would clean eyeglasses, not a barbecue.

Avoid

Abrasive pads, scrub brushes, razor blades and ammonia-heavy cleaners. They scratch or degrade the surface, and the damage is not reversible.

PDLC Extras

Switchable glass has no moving parts to service. Keep the electrical connections dry and undisturbed, and it simply keeps switching.

Honest Lifespan Numbers

Interior coverings are rated in decades. Exterior installs and glass that takes hard, all-day sun wear faster, and we say so when quoting rather than after. PDLC panels are rated for tens of thousands of switching cycles, which works out to years of daily use. Whatever we install, you get the real numbers for that specific product, in writing, before you commit.

If you move, coverings come off clean without damaging the glass when removed properly. Most owners leave switchable glass in place when they sell, because it helps the sale. Nothing we install traps you.

Keep your paperwork: your quote lists the exact products installed and their ratings. If you ever sell, pass it to the next owner. It answers their questions and it is proof the work was done right.
