Privacy, Day & Night

The most important thing to understand before buying privacy for your glass: daytime privacy and nighttime privacy are two different problems.

The Physics

Privacy Follows the Light

Reflective and shaded coverings create privacy with a simple rule: whoever is on the brighter side sees a reflection, and whoever is on the darker side sees through. During the day the sun makes the outside far brighter than your interior, so the outside world sees a mirror while you keep your view.

After dark the situation reverses. Your lights make the inside the bright side, so the mirror flips and people outside can see in, the same as any clear glass. That is not a product defect. It is how light works, and it applies to every reflective covering on the market, no matter who installs it.

This is also why so-called one-way glass, the kind you see in interrogation scenes, is not a real option for a home. It only works when one side is kept dark at all times. The moment you turn a lamp on, the effect is gone.

Night Included

Bedrooms, bathrooms, ground-floor glass. Choose PDLC switchable or a frosted finish. Reflective coverings alone will not do it.

Angled Sightlines

Overlooked patios and condo-facing windows. Micro-louvered coverings close the specific angle rather than the whole view.
